AliveWeather — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the AliveWeather mobile application (the “App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use it. We have designed AliveWeather to collect as little data as possible: the App has no user accounts, shows no advertising, and uses no third‑party analytics or tracking. By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we process

• Location data (approximate and precise). If you use the “Use my location (GPS)” feature, the App reads your device location to show the weather for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to our weather data service to retrieve the forecast for that point. Location is used only while you actively use this feature and is not used to build a profile or to track you over time.
• Place searches. When you search for a location by name, the text you type is sent to our weather data service to return matching places.
• Saved locations and settings. The locations you save, your preferences (units, theme, language, forecast model, icon style, widget settings) and a cache of recent weather are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload or store them on our servers.
• Technical request data. Like any app that connects to the internet, when the App requests weather data our servers may process standard technical information such as your IP address and the time of the request. This is used only to operate the service, ensure reliability and prevent abuse, and is retained for a limited period.

We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, or any advertising identifiers, and we do not sell your data.

2. How we use information

• To provide current conditions and forecasts for your chosen or current location.
• To convert coordinates into a readable place name (reverse geocoding).
• To keep your saved locations, preferences and home‑screen widgets working, including periodic background refresh of the widget.
• To maintain the security, stability and integrity of the service.

3. Third parties

• Weather data provider. The App sends location coordinates and place searches to the backend service that supplies weather forecasts, solely to return the requested weather information.
• Device operating system. Converting coordinates to a place name may use the geocoding service built into your device’s operating system, which is governed by your device manufacturer’s and/or Google’s privacy terms.

We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers or analytics providers.

4. Permissions

• Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — optional; only used when you choose to get weather for your current location. You can deny or revoke it at any time in your device settings; the App still works using locations you add manually.
• Internet — required to download weather data.

5. Data storage and retention

Your saved locations, settings and cached weather remain on your device and are removed when you clear the App’s data or uninstall the App. Technical request data processed by our servers is kept only as long as necessary for the purposes described above.

6. Children’s privacy

AliveWeather is a general‑audience weather app and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Security

Network requests are made over encrypted HTTPS connections. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data the App handles.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data. Because the App stores your data locally and does not require an account, you can exercise most of these rights directly by clearing the App’s data or uninstalling it.
